First face-to-face project meeting in Spain
From June 2–3, 2025 The first in-person meeting of our project took place in Bilbao, Spain. A total of 26 project partners from various countries came together to finally meet in person, engage in in-depth discussions, and work together on the next steps in the project.
Day 1: Project meeting and school visit in Basauri
On the first day, we visited Basauri Ikastetxea, a school in the town of Basauri near Bilbao. The morning was devoted to a comprehensive project meeting, during which current progress was presented and organizational matters were discussed.
Following a joint lunch, the Teacher Exchange Meeting took place. In between, we had the opportunity to tour the school grounds – including an impressive greening project in the courtyard, where pupils grow their own vegetables. The tour offered fascinating insights into environmental education in action at the school.
Day 2: Collaborative Work and Environmental Education in Getxo
On the second day, we met at the Colegio Santísima Trinidad in Getxo. The morning was structured to be more interactive: Working in groups, we explored selected project topics in greater depth, gathered ideas, and discussed them. This intensive work session not only helped further develop the content but also fostered mutual understanding among the partner organizations.
In the afternoon, the itinerary included a visit to the “AULA AMBIENTAL de Getxo” —a municipal educational center open to all schools in the region. The center aims to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable development through educational programs and weekend recreational activities.
Conclusion: Personal Exchange, Shared Ideas and Looking Ahead
Despite two days of rainy weather, the atmosphere remained positive throughout: Getting to know one another in person, the informal conversations, and the in-depth exchange of ideas made the meeting an important milestone in the project’s progress. Work will now continue on the various work packages —with great motivation and anticipation for the next in-person meeting, which will take place in Cork, Ireland, in 2026.
