REAL CORP 2026

The 31st International Conference on Urban Planning and Regional Development in the Information Society (REAL CORP) took place in Vienna—at the Otto Wagner Areal in the 14th district—from March 23 to March 25, 2026.

Under the motto “EVERYBODY MAKES PLANS … SOMETIMES Under the theme “Cherish Heritage, Plan Now, Create a Better Future!“, more than 250 participants from 35 countries around the world gathered.

The main goal of the REAL CORP conference series is to bring together leading experts in the fields of spatial planning, geoinformation, and related disciplines so that they can exchange knowledge, share ideas, discuss current developments, and network in person, thereby fostering new ideas, partnerships, and projects.

On the third day of the conference, we presented the initial findings from the EWV4EnergieWende project in our presentation titled “Methods for Assessing the Energy Transition Potential of the Urban Building Stock”!

Our focus is on creating social and organizational frameworks and translating technical solutions into accessible engagement and communication strategies. Stefan Moller of MACH also presented the “Value Score” method, which allows technical frameworks to be compared, thereby providing a solid basis for decision-making.

The results show that the energy transition in existing buildings requires a shift in thinking: it necessitates a combination of methods, an interdisciplinary approach, and the involvement of stakeholders from the very beginning in order to develop sustainable and viable solutions.
