On October 22, 2025, the second consortium meeting of the FFG project EWV4Energiewende took place. The focus was on discussing strategies for efficiently, economically, and ecologically converting the existing real estate portfolio of the Evangelical Orphans’ Welfare Associationto renewable energy sources in line with European and Austrian climate goals.
In an interactive workshop, project partner MACH presented the results of its analyses and building assessments to date, as well as strategies and new approaches for the transformation of existing buildings. The focus was on the “MACH Value Score Assessment, ” an evaluation method that assesses buildings not only based on economic indicators but also considers them across multiple dimensions:
- social and user-related criteria
- technical aspects
- ecological factors
- Future Readiness & Regulation
The application of this method clearly demonstrated that a purely economic assessment of renovation measures often falls short—especially in the case of older buildings. The social impact and long-term sustainability, in particular, often prove to be decisive factors in making well-informed decisions.
Based on the results discussed, the next steps in the project for the coming weeks and months are now being prepared. This will also involve assessing the extent to which neighborhood-wide solutions represent a viable option, such as through shared energy infrastructure or coordinated renovation strategies across multiple buildings.
