Opening of the Open-Air Class

A sunny day for education and climate awareness: the open-air classroom at EMS Strasshof has opened.

In sunny weather and with great enthusiasm, the open-air classroom at EMS Strasshof was officially opened on 30 April 2024. Pupils, parents, grandparents, teachers, interested local residents and political representatives from the market town of Strasshof, as well as the ‘Strasshof. Klimafit!’ project team, gathered for this special occasion.

As part of the Strasshof.Klimafit! project, the open-air classroom represented a concrete measure for adapting to climate change on a school site, designed to address summer heat (which began as early as April this year), improve the microclimate, create spaces for active learning and recreation, and promote biodiversity and species diversity.

Also in attendance were guests such as Mayor Ludwig Deltl and Nicole Kirchberger from the Climate and Energy Fund, who expressed their support for this pioneering project. The opening was officially performed by Director Helmut Strohmayer, who thereby marked another significant step forward in the Strasshof.klimafit! project. He was accompanied by project manager Bente Knoll and other representatives of the project team.

Following the official opening, visitors had the opportunity to take part in guided tours led by experts to learn more about the construction and planting of the open-air classroom. At the same time, the EMS Strasshof assembly hall hosted the opening of an exhibition of art projects by talented pupils, alongside a display of creative upcycled products, which also attracted a great deal of interest. Guided tours offered insights into the creative diversity of these young talents.

Following the official programme, the guests took the opportunity to get together over refreshing drinks and a barbecue and have a chat.
