Teaching Materials: How Girls and Boys Present Themselves Online

Teens use the Internet in a variety of ways; it is firmly embedded in their lives. Presenting oneself online is of great importance to them. Teens are deeply engaged in managing their own image. Social networks in particular—such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—provide a major platform for this.

Self-presentation online isn’t always positive. In cases of cyberbullying, for example, the school is directly confronted with the issue and must take action. However, many problems can be mitigated in advance by talking to young people about them. This is where both parents and the school have a role to play.

Acquiring digital skills is an important part of education. This handbook specifically addresses digital skills for 10- to 14-year-olds through exercises.
