“Gender Mainstreaming and Mobility in Lower Austria” was published as Issue 22 of the Lower Austria State Transportation Concept series and examines differences in mobility between women and men.<\/p>\n\n
In a society where women and men hold different positions and are assigned specific roles, there is no \u201cgender-neutral\u201d perspective. Being a woman or a man is decisive in determining what place we can occupy in society and under what conditions. Mobility, too, is embedded in existing gender relations. This means that the gender-specific division of labor, along with structural role assignments, always influences people\u2019s mobility. Depending on how a person\u2019s daily life is organized and what work and activities they must perform, there are differences in the routes they take, their choice of transportation, and their mode of travel. <\/p>\n\n
A key aspect of implementing gender mainstreaming in transportation planning is for those involved in the process to examine their own gender roles and gender stereotypes.
