As part of the Connect4SmartMoves (C4SM)<\/a> project, the first on-site workshops have now taken place. <\/p>\n\n

Over two workshop days\u2014May 12, 2026, and June 17, 2026\u2014experts from a wide range of mobility sectors gathered at the \u00d6BB Innovation Lab at Vienna Central Station. Together, they discussed what \u201csmart traffic avoidance\u201d<\/strong> could mean in concrete terms, what challenges exist in its implementation, and which approaches already <\/strong>exist\u2014or could be adopted more extensively in the future\u2014in both passenger and freight transport <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Reducing traffic does not automatically mean giving things up. Rather, it is about cutting back on trips, journeys, or transportation where they are not absolutely necessary, or organizing them more efficiently. How can unnecessary traffic be reduced without simultaneously limiting mobility, participation, and quality of life? <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

In practice, traffic shifting and improvement often take center stage, while traffic avoidance frequently remains in the background. Yet this is the foundation and the most resource-efficient step. Therefore, a variety of experiences, assessments, and ideas were shared during the workshops. Participants discussed the existing obstacles and identified potential approaches and concrete measures that can be addressed in the project\u2019s next phases. <\/p>\n\n

As part of the discussion, Julia Wohlfahrt and Bettina R\u00f6nfeld from the City of Graz shared insights into the implementation of their \u201cKlimalicht\u201d project. The project demonstrates how reducing traffic can be approached in a simple and practical way that fits into everyday life. At the same time, it highlights the role that raising awareness, providing information, and ensuring visibility play. <\/p>\n\n

The C4SM project is a mobilization and networking initiative funded by the BMIMI through the FFG. Its goal is to develop dialogue formats, roadmaps, and recommendations for action that will contribute to the long-term implementation of the Mobility Master Plan 2030. The project runs from September 2025 to February 2028 and is being implemented by CLIMEET\u2014Association for Climate Protection through Digital Solutions<\/a> \u2014and by VC\u00d6\u2014Mobility with a Future. Bente Knoll is a co-founder of the CLIMEET association, which is also supported by the B-NK GmbH team as part of the project. <\/p>\n\n
