In the \u2018Accessibility\u2019 workshop, the pupils explore what accessibility means and the role it plays in the urban environment. <\/p>\n\n

The focus is on personal experience. Through practical exercises, the children learn what it can feel like to get about with physical limitations. A range of aids are used for this purpose. Special glasses simulate various visual impairments, whilst crutches and wheelchairs allow the children to move around with limited mobility. <\/p>\n\n

Building on this, the children explore their surroundings anew. During short exploratory walks within the school or in the immediate vicinity, they analyse which features are helpful and where obstacles lie. They learn to be sensitive to different needs and to view public spaces from various perspectives. <\/p>\n\n

The workshop not only promotes an understanding of accessibility, but also fosters empathy and awareness in everyday life. The content is delivered in a way that is appropriate for the participants\u2019 age and adapted to the circumstances, such as the weather or the available space on site. <\/p>\n\n

The workshop has already been held at several schools in Vienna, including Friedrichsplatz Primary School, Piaristenplatz Primary School and Boerhaavegasse Grammar School. The content and methods are flexibly adapted to the children\u2019s age and prior knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
